Jazmine Sullivan
Jazmine Jacobson was born in and lived at home in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Pam her mother, who is Jazmine's mom, was once a backing singer at Philadelphia International Records. Her father offered her a job as the curator for the Historic Strawberry Mansion. She and her family then moved in to the historic landmark. She graduated in 2005 of Philadelphia High School for the Creative and Performing Arts in which she was singing music major. Sullivan started singing in children's chorus as a contralto after which she was a part of the adult choir a few years later. Sullivan's exposure to secular music was at first limited "I had solos singing in the church and was approached by someone to be a part of the gospel label at age had turned eleven, however I wasn't ready to do that," she recalls. "Then the time came that McDonald's had a competition for kids in major cities and I was offered the chance to perform 'Accept what God Gives' on Showtime in the Apollo and the audience loved it". She was just 13 when she sang alongside Stevie Wonder for his grandson's birthday. Sullivan was the first to sign her contract with Jive Records when she was 15. There, she recorded an entire album. However, the album was never released. Sullivan was eventually dismissed on the labels. She maintained a working relationship with Missy Elliott and produced many of the tracks for her debut project, such as the brash single "Backstabbers" that was written and produced by Timbaland and written by Elliott.
